DH project. A review of the Veterans Legacy Program

The Veterans Legacy Program (VLP) is a program that had established to “to memorialize Veterans’ service to the nation by telling their stories.” To develop a digital humanity program the National Cemetery Administration’s (NCA) partnership with the University of Central Florida to create a big humanities project. This project is a part of the UCF History department and Center for Humanities and Digital Research (CHDR).

How the project organized?

The VLP  project is organized by a team of faculty and students, Teachers and volunteers. Burdick in the DH guide provided the fundamental elements to organize any DH projects. The VLP teams were well-organized from the perspective of having deferent experience in the group (p5). So, the faculty in the project belong to history, digital media, and Education. Moreover, the experts in the team from the army veterans this compensation help to provide the content with more knowledge. This project is a funded project from the NCA which helps to sustain.

How does the project add to the students’ knowledge?

The VLP website has a tremendous line of information that helps students and teachers. The Main audience for the project is students from K-12 grade. The content on the site included deferent sections and skills — the biographies of veterans whose visual database include information and short stories about the veterans in the project. The users can search with many features names, year, place, race …etc and they can locate the area of this person in the virtual maps.

The virtual tour section was there a verity of an online guide for the veteran’s stories and how that augmented reality guide was designed is impressive. This section will help the student to keep updated to the legacy and have a sense of being part of this community. I think it’s important for everyone to have this project as a reference to know the history of these people and how they defend and sacrifice for this country. The Mobile app that helps to augment the reality in the cemetery is very helped to direct for the visitors in the graves. This app conveys Florida National Cemetery, St. Augustine National Cemetery, Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery.

The interface designed simply and that help the audience to find the information essay. The website is included the contact information and social media icons.

I would appreciate this project as an international person who started about learn about the US veteran’s history. I checked some of the text and virtual materials on the website to gain more information, and I found it interesting.

In regards to my idea to develop the website or contribute to the serves in the VLP project is divided in tow section. First, is to add a live chatting with a historian to ask about information or resource. The second section is to add the social media platform to what interested the age of the audience K-12. A study from the Pew research center shown that teens age13to17 using Instagram with 72% and has the second app among social media platform and Snapchat have 69% the study was investigating the usage of this apps to gained information among teens. The study finds that it was evident that most of the teens were accessing the internet form their smartphones. A good explanation was that YouTube, Instagram, and Snapchat are complete mobile phone applications. Is So, if Instagram adds to the platform in the VLP project to presenting the photos and Sanapchat account to convey every event in the project that can motivate the students to volunteer and spread the project as well. Regarding the students in K-2nd, I think if some games and class activate add to the materials that will help to improve the teacher’s skills. Also, updating the twitter account with more interesting tweets that make the students participate in online conversations and contribute to the SM content.
